~ A true gem in what's now Disney-fied
Manhattan. Intimate, relaxing, great jazz, unpretentious and
friendly crowd, and $8 per person
BYOB! Will definitely be back.

~ By far the least pretentious cigar bar I've ever seen. It
is really a place for people who enjoy a fine smoke and don't
want to be surrounded by social climbers attempting to look
cool. (Steven V., Staten Island,

Their Cigars are Dominican & quite nice. The Atmosphere is
friendly. If you like a small place really nice & cozy. Check it
out.

~ super cool cigar
lounge, but don't tell anyone...(by

Cool atmosphere and vibe. The people there were a cool mix
of locals and serious cigar smokers. The space has a
speakeasy feel.
~ Best Cigar Lounge in
Manhattan (by

I spent last Sunday there with a friend. The music was great,
the staff was very nice, and we spent 5 hours there. We enjoyed
the company of the staff and other customers. Great
conversation, great atmosphere and great cigars.

The best part is their own signature blends which are remarkable
that you can only get from Velvet. The environment makes you
feel comfortable to be in that even their own customers make you
feel welcome.

This lounge radiates old boys' club exclusivity; plush leather
couches and chairs all face inward, so one step inside the tiny
space (and past the requisite Indian chief) and you'll end up
surrounded by stogie-chomping regulars in the midst of barbershop-esque
conversation.

BlackBook Lowdown ~ Get ‘em if you smoke ‘em.
Technically a store, not a bar, so they can end-around the
Bloomberg diktat. No booze, but for a fee you can BYO. Tiny,
cozy space finished in gentlemanly wood and leather. Kick
back with a house-blended stogie or pick out a splendid
Esplendido from behind glass. Originally targeted toward
young EV guns, but brings in steady, conversant crew of all
stripes and ages.

The kind of place where a first time visitor is
met with a round of introductions, unattended women are viewed with
suspicion, and friendships are begun with the clip of a cigar.

AOL CityGuide
Good cigars are like good men: hard to find,
strong, and circumcised. Until Castro dies, New Yorkers will have to
put Cubans on the backburner and opt for stogies from the Dominican
Republic, the kind that are offered at this modern and rare retreat.
A special Cigar Roller (a person, not a machine) handcrafts each one
from scratch, and if you plan ahead you can arrange for the tobacco
leaves to be tightly rolled directly in front of your table or
party.

This is the least pretencious New York cigar bar that I have
ever been to. They don’t sell alcohol, but for an $8 they
will let you bring in what you want. . It’s a small
place that can get crowded, but walk on in and someone will
usually be ready to leave. It is inexpensive and and a gem
to cigar smokers. Check out some of their hand-rolled cigars
and keep this place to yourself.

True cigar aficionados know that the Velvet
Lounge is the perfect venue for a premium smoke and vintage spirit
to relax after a hard day’s work. With a relaxed atmosphere that
encourages smoking and drinking, it’s impossible to resist the burnt
cognac and amaretto scents that waft through the air. The handmade cigars are of premium quality
unique to the Velvet Cigar line, and the flavor options range from
mango and peach to sambuca and apple cinnamon. ~

Velvet
Cigar Lounge may have a bygone formality to it, but it actually
permeates with a welcoming and friendly neighborhood vibe that
overshadows the distinct aroma of cigar smoke. Even if you're a
cigar novice, the staff will treat you just as one of the regulars,
and will be happy to thoroughly guide you in creating a perfectly
tailored cigar…. The establishment also serves as a boutique, so
you're encouraged to take home a few of what you sample, or try
something new.
